resolutions lie
beneath truth we seek to hide –
resolutions lie
resolutions lie
beneath truth we seek to hide –
resolutions lie
another year ends,
explosion of light and sound –
continuation
people fill churches –
I sit with robins and squirrels,
petunias and weeds
a mockingbird perched
on a garden pergola –
nature’s cover band
my fingers still hold
the memory of your legs –
sunlight behind clouds
carpenter bees drill
into an old plank of wood –
tiny sawdust dunes
a small green lizard
sunbathes on the damp porch rail –
purple azalea blooms
distant owl croons,
mice huddle beneath dead leaves –
an early spring storm
rain taps the tin roof,
my cottage like a jazz band –
an early spring storm
dogwood limbs shake as
a squirrel leaps from branch to branch –
petals like spring snow
